Calcutta High Court orders demolition of buildings that are illegally constructed in Tagore's residence
On Monday, the Calcutta High Court ordered the demolition of all illegal buildings in the Jorasanko campus of the prestigious Rabindra Bharati University. This includes Rameswar Mitra's office--an affiliate of the state's ruling Trinamool Congress party.

Kolkata. The Calcutta High Court has ordered the demolition of all illegal construction in a campus affiliated to the ruling Trinamool Congress, at the Jorasanko campus of the Rabindra Bharati University here. The order calls for making the complex completely encroachment free within the next three weeks.
The Indian states of West Bengal and Jharkhand are quarreling over sharing rights to a building in Kolkata. Two judges of the Calcutta High Court have advised the police and Kolkata Municipal Council's Heritage Conservation Committee to extend full cooperation with RBU in the matter.
Recently, a Public Interest Litigation was filed in the Calcutta High Court, alleging that an area of heritage site not had been tampered with and two rooms in that section were not in use for a long time.
The petitioner, Rajib Chakraborty, said that a portion of the heritage building was tampered with to set up the office of a political organization which was completely illegal. It also questioned whether a heritage structure can be used for someone's objective.
"How can such a political office function within a heritage structure?" The question was asked of Chief Justice Prakash Srivastava.
After this, the bench ordered the demolition of all illegal constructions within the heritage structure within the next three weeks.
